Members of the public, commercial and non-commercial organisations are able to engage a specialist barrister's services, including advocacy, on a Direct Access basis.

We provide representation across a range of areas of law including:

Our barristers who are registered to receive Direct Access instructions are on hand to provide guidance throughout the process, ensuring that representation is received in a quick and easy way.

We are able to receive instructions without the need to instruct any other lawyer. However, there may be occasions when instructing a solicitor is necessary or is in the client's best interest, such as issuing a claim in court. In these circumstances the barrister will provide guidance as to how best to proceed.

We have a knowledgeable clerking team who understand both the client's needs and the suitability of all members of Chambers. We recognise that the deployment of appropriate counsel, in terms of experience, availability and cost, to each individual case is of the utmost importance and we take a collaborative approach to facilitate this. Full and candid guidance as to the availability and suitability of members of Ropewalk Chambers is offered in accordance with the requirements of each particular matter.

We believe that transparency and openness are essential to building a successful relationship. We will clearly set out the likely costs before undertaking a particular element of work.

Licensed Access Scheme

Instructions are increasingly received from clients under the Licensed Access Scheme. This is a licensing system whereby organisations or individuals that have an identifiable area of expertise or experience can apply to the Bar Standards Board to be licensed to instruct barristers directly. The license holder can instruct any member of Chambers for advice, and in some circumstances representation, on their own behalf or another's behalf in the specialist area.

A schedule of licensed organisations can be found at the link above.
