Mequissa joined Ropewalk Chambers as a tenant in 2025 following successful completion of her pupillage under the principal supervision of Rachel Young. She has a growing personal injury practice and is known for her meticulous preparation, empathetic client care and compelling advocacy.
Before commencing pupillage, Mequissa held a range of legal roles, including serving as a judicial assistant to civil and criminal judges in the Supreme Court of Barbados, where she gained early experience in personal injury law. She has also worked as a commercial legal strategist at a multi-jurisdictional Caribbean law firm and as a corporate affairs officer at Barbados’ Corporate Affairs and Intellectual Property Office.
During pupillage, Mequissa developed experience across a wide range of practice areas including clinical negligence, inquests, housing, industrial disease, Animals Act 1971 claims, and historic abuse. She has since established a busy practice and has been commended by both instructing solicitors and opponents for her clear, persuasive advocacy.
Mequissa is deeply committed to access to justice. She has volunteered with the UNDP and led several charitable initiatives promoting legal education. She is a mentor with Bridging the Bar and the International Future Barrister Mentorship Programme and sits on the Equality and Diversity Committee of the Nottinghamshire Law Society.
She has been awarded more than 15 scholarships and academic prizes, including two Exhibition Awards from the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple, and brings that same standard of excellence to her legal practice.
Outside of Chambers, Mequissa enjoys singing (having performed professionally before joining the Bar), mentoring aspiring barristers and spending time with her family. She also considers herself an amateur film and music critic.
