Mediators

Almost all mediations where our barristers have acted as the mediator have resulted in an overall settlement, either at the mediation or quite shortly thereafter.

Our mediators cover the fullest range of mediations in terms of both dispute value and subject matter. Although it is not essential for a mediator to be a lawyer with a lot of litigation and advocacy experience, it is generally accepted that it is a substantial advantage.

All of our mediators have been involved in cases covering a wide range of subject matters and have acquired a ready understanding of the probative nature of evidence and how courts and other tribunals work in practice and so are better able to apply ‘reality checks’ that are appropriate and robust.

We are able to control the mediation process in a firm but friendly manner and are fully conversant with the practical psychology of settlement discussions as well as negotiation techniques and so can better prevent the mediation foundering.

Our mediators are professionals operating under stringent professional standards and within a firm ethos of strict confidence and honest dealing and so can inspire the trust that enables each side to be entirely candid with the mediator during the private meetings.

Our mediators provide their services at rates that are competitive and will be found to offer very good value for money.

We have convenient, modern premises with a large range of rooms purpose-designed for mediations. We offer the free use of our facilities when one of our barristers is engaged as the mediator. Regular refreshments, including a buffet lunch, are also provided free of charge. We are also very willing to travel nationally to attend mediations.
