Ropewalk Chambers is delighted to announce that Tom Carter’s case of Churchill v Merthyr Tydfil Borough Council [2023] EWCA Civ 1416, relating to Japanese Knotweed, has been shortlisted for the Case of the Year Award at Lexis Nexis at the 2025 Legal Awards.

The case overturned the longstanding decision in Halsey and confirmed that parties can now be compelled to mediate. It applies to all areas of civil litigation and has already significantly impacted the number of mediations.

Tom Carter has a particular specialism in Japanese knotweed claims, being described as having been involved in “all of the agenda-setting cases”.

We would like to take the opportunity to wish Tom luck ahead of the ceremony on 13 March 2025.
