Shilpa attended BPP Bar School where she won First Prize for Advocacy and gained a final overall mark which put her within the top ten highest achievers of that year.

Prior to that she had completed a Masters’ Degree in Law, in which she achieved a Distinction (equivalent to First Class). She won the Gluckstein Prize for Advocacy from Lincoln’s Inn and won a Major Scholarship.

During her early years she worked with the Free Representation Unit and for the Citizens Advice Bureau.

Shilpa specialises in costs and personal injury-related cases.

At the request of the solicitor, Shilpa is happy to consider working under a suitable conditional fee agreement. She is also licenced to undertake direct access work.

She has considerable experience of resolving claims during the course of joint settlement meetings. She regularly attends court and is often complimented on her attention to detail and the thoroughness of her preparation and presentation at trial.

  • Costs & Litigation Funding

    Shilpa is an experienced costs and personal injury practitioner with a busy nationwide practice. She has a substantial practice in all aspects of costs and litigation funding and regularly appears before all levels of judiciary from the County and High Courts to the Senior Court Costs Office and has had experience in the Court of Appeal.

    Whilst Shilpa has considerable experience in detailed assessment hearings, her practice covers every aspect of costs and litigation funding issues including costs budgeting and costs management issues, applications to revise costs budgets, oral review hearings for provisionally assessed bills, wasted costs applications, solicitor / own client disputes and appeal hearings. She has been involved in group litigation costs matters and where numerous cases said to be linked by similar fact issues are heard together.

    Shilpa provides costs talks and speaks at conferences. She has spoken at the prestigious Association of Costs Lawyer’s Annual Manchester Costs Conference, sharing a platform with other established practitioners and Senior Costs Judges.

  • Personal Injury

    Her realm of personal injury work covers all aspects of liability disputes at higher value Fast Track and Multi Track and catastrophic injuries, embracing a broad variety of personal injury work including accidents at work, road traffic accidents, occupier’s liability claims, highways claims, sports injuries, clinical negligence, cases involving allegations of fraud, group litigation and industrial injuries.

    She has particular experience of claims involving spinal injuries, significant orthopaedic injuries, psychiatric injuries, brain injury and injuries suffered by children.

  • Inquests

    Shilpa is regularly instructed to attend Coroner’s Inquests and has recently handled matters involving care providers, hospitals, road traffic accidents, workplace accidents and infant deaths. Such instructions may be in conjunction with a fatal accident claim, or as a stand-alone instruction.

  • Motor

    Shilpa has had over fifteen years’ experience in dealing with motor claims cases, including fatal accident claims, multiple party actions and cases involving the Motor Insurers Bureau. Within this time she has developed a specialism in counter-fraud defences and was involved in some of the first cases involving social media and mobile phone metadata analysis.

    She continues to be instructed regularly in claims where fraud had been alleged, accepting instructions for both Defendants and Claimants. Overlapping with her costs practice, she regularly deals with advices and hearings involving costs arguments where issues of fundamental dishonesty are raised.

  • Clinical Negligence

    Alongside her personal injury work, Shilpa accepts instructions in clinical negligence and professional regulation matters. She is able to assist with all aspects of such matters, from early conferences and advices, through to advising on evidence, settling case papers and representing clients at hearings.
